"I just love the cool, clean, slightly industrial effect, but it wasn't easy to get right. I originally decided to have concrete floors throughout the flat but these and the first island begain to disintegrate."

"Fortunately, I found White and Reid who really knew what they were doing. The island was cast on site then wrapped and left to dry. Then they spent about two days polishing and sealing it with different waxes, so it's a wonderful, inpenetrable surface."

"I love the austerity of concrete, but I like to offset it with the warmth of underfloor heating and natural wood."
