Tadelakt

Tadelakt is a beautiful natural material that punctuates elements of the home with vibrant tones, surface patina, texture and colour. It is a mineral-based polished plaster in a traditional Moroccan style that can be applied to existing plaster in a very thin layer.

Tadelakt is fast becoming an extremely popular alternative to traditional tiles as the material functions extremely well under wet conditions and can form a seamless finish to kitchen and bathroom areas. Made from natural hydraulic lime, quartz, marble, clay, ashes and earth, Tadelakt is naturally antique white in colour and can be pigmented to varying degrees of intensity using natural colour earthy pigments to create a spectacularly intense tone.

After polishing soap is applied, Tadelakt becomes very durable; water resistant and repellent. It is applied using a spatula and is subsequently compressed to a dense smooth finish after which the surface is further consolidated using a small polishing stone and Marseille soap. The soap penetrates the Tadelakt creating a water-resistant surface. Natural waxes can then be applied and buffed to create additional protection for the wall with added shine and depth of tone.

The durable and versatile characteristics of Tadelakt lend themselves well for internal walls, punctuated architectural features such as chimney breasts, kitchen splashbacks, shower cubicles and wet room construction.
